Sashiko mending is a Japanese style of visible mending that uses embroidery stitching to create beautiful surface designs. It’s simple to learn, but has endless style variations. In this workshop you’ll learn the basics of sashiko and various sashiko patterns and styles of mending. You will design a sashiko patch, and go home with a plan for your own sashiko project.
Participant and Materials Requirements: Please bring a mending project, 1-3 skeins (half skeins are fine) of embroidery thread, and a thimble that fits on your thumb. Shop early at Ragfinery for best selection. Sashiko needles and cotton or linen squares for your patch will be provided.
About the Instructor: You may recognize Erin as one of our own Ragfinery staff. She has been embroidering for 6 years, and also owns her own embroidery business, wrenbirdarts. She makes hand embroidered hankies, embroidery kits, and one-of-a-kind upcycled clothing and hoop art. Learn more at wrenbirdarts.com
