Go from Undergarment to Glamour! Learn how to artfully create a one-of-a-kind, chic gown for all occasions from a vintage slip and a yard or two of lace. This class will give you the inspiration and skills to fit pieces of lace nicely onto the slip, securely hand stitch with finished edges to avoid fraying, and create appliqués easily and thoughtfully. There will be a half hour break for lunch. Please note that the garment will not be entirely finished during class and will need to be completed at home.
Requirements: Basic hand sewing experience is required. Please bring a vintage slip of your choosing, a yard each of two or three laces, polyester thread to match the slip and lace, double sided fusible webbing, 1/4″ – 1/2″ & 1″ ribbons to match the slip, pins, scissors and a variety of different size sewing needles.
About the Instructor: Janet Kingsley’s momma put a sewing needle in her hand when she was quite young, and she followed suit with her own daughters. Her projects have been many…costumes, dresses, slacks, aprons, curtains, quilts…and last, but not least, her daughter’s wedding dress fashioned from a vintage slip and yards of lace.
