Every donation matters.

Each donation helps us continue our mission to divert textile waste from the landfill. As a small program we ask that donors adhere to what we have the capacity to take. Please read below to find answers to frequently asked questions.

 FAQs

  • Ragfinery is not a textile recycling facility. We work to divert textiles from landfill by upcycling, creative reuse, mending, and selling useable garments in our thrift store. Until recycling technology catches up with the millions of pounds of waste created each year, repair, reuse and wearing garments out is one of the best ways to make an impact.

  • We do not refurbish or fix sewing machines, so we ask that machines that are donated are in working condition.

If you are looking for machine repair, we recommend Molly’s Sewing Machine Service.

  • While we love all arts and crafts, we specialize in textile art and craft supplies. We reccomend all donations of other craft supplies be donated to Allied Arts.

  • With scraps that are at least 12” x 12”, in clean useable condition, we sell them on our scrap table! Our scrap table is a place to shop for a variety of scraps for a variety of projects. Some shop this table for quilting cotton for scrappy quilts! Some use it to find fabric to patch a pair of jeans. You can fill two bags of scraps from this table for just $1.00.

We donate fabric scraps that are too small to use to Habitat for Humanity in Whatcom County. Habitat has a partnership with Global Neighborhood, and organization in Spokane, Wa, that sorts and sends out textiles for recycling. These items may be turned into products like insulation!

  • In an effort to not overwhelm our facility and staff, we ask that folks keep donations to three bags or less at a time.

For extra large donations and things like home move outs, we ask you call ahead and schedule a time to bring in this extra large donation. We are so thankful for these donations and will work with you so we can accept everything we can.

  • Items we pass along, due to things like style and fiber content, are donated to Northwest Center or other local programs for people in need of quality garments. Unusable textiles are sent to Habitat for Humanity for recycling or used in shop for upcycling by us or other local artists. We also donate to other programs like Northwest Youth Services, Communities In Schools, and by request to anyone in need of garments or shoes right now.
