Position Summary
The function of the Textile Specialist is to participate fully in the daily operations of the retail store. This role is responsible for sales activities, textile sorting & identification, and engaging our patrons in the conversation around textile waste and creative upcycling. The textile specialist assists customers, consignors, artists, instructors, staff, trainees, and volunteers.  This role helps carry out the directives of the Program Manager and to focus on the mission of ReUse Works.  

Primary duties include but are not limited to: 

  • Assist customers, respond to questions, & provide outstanding customer service.

  • Opening & closing procedures & tasks.

  • Balance the cash register and generate reports for cash, credit, & debit sales. 

  • Accept payments, and ensure all prices & quantities are accurate. 

  • Maintain a safe and clean store environment by adhering to cleaning schedules/tasks.

  • Accept, sort, fold, organize, hang, and bin donations of textiles according to fabric content, size, and other criteria. 

  • Specialty price merchandise for sale. 

  • Spot minor defects - stains, holes, loose threads, missing buttons in merchandise, and make reliable judgment calls on sellable vs unsellable goods. 

  • Price & tag merchandise according to specific pricing guidelines, taking into account: condition, brand, styles, fiber content, and store sales trends. 

  • Create & execute displays with input from management. 

  • Support staff, volunteers, and instructors in setting up for and participating in classes, and special events as needed. \

  • Work closely with staff and management to think creatively and execute ideas to upcycle textile donations and re-use existing materials to create new items for sale.

  • Weekly donation pickups depending on staff schedule.

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs

    Qualifications:

  • Engaged and committed to our mission 

  • Available to work Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from  9:30 AM to 5:30 PM

  • Experience in customer service and cash handling.

  • Knowledge of thrifting, consignment, clothing brands, and their value 

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks

  • Motivated, dependable team player with the ability to take direction from individuals in higher-level positions
