Since 2014, Ragfinery has diverted 1,032,472 lbs of textiles from landfill.

Textile diversion is at the core of our mission

The world produces 92 million tons of textile waste EVERY YEAR. Less than 15% of clothes and shoes in the U.S. end up being recycled. The remaining 85% end up in the landfill.

This is why we shouldn’t rely solely on textile recycling as a solution. Together as a community we can reduce the impact of textile waste by buying used, repairing what we have and finding creative new uses for discarded items.

Some of our partners

  • Labels Consignment

Labels has been an integral partner of ours for many years! We do a large weekly pick up from them that totals thousands of pounds each month of clothing kept out of the landfill.

  • Bellingham Occupied Protest

We are a collection facility for donations to Bellingham Occupied Protest, also known as BOP. BOP is a mutual aid program to get resources directly to folks in our community who need it. We are always collecting items like toiletries, warm clothing, socks, and underwear and outdoor gear.

  • Northwest Center

Garments that we a do not keep are donated to Northwest Center. This non-profit works to promote the growth, development, and independence of people with disabilities through programs of therapy, education, and work opportunities.

  • Habitat for Humanity

We donate small and unusable scrap fabric to Habitat for Humanity to be recycled. Habitat partners with Global Neighborhood in Spokane, WA, where textiles are graded and sorted for different types of recycling or reselling.

Ragfinery staff diverts an average of 10-15,000 pounds of textiles from the landfill each month!
